Syeda Saira Wins Cartoon Network Nationwide Search Malaysian Gwen Posted: 16 Feb 2011 10:08 PM PST CARTOON NETWORK REVEALS MALAYSIA'S VERY OWN HEROINE! 5-year old Syeda Saira Binti Syed Sirajudeen wins Cartoon Network's nationwide search for Malaysian Gwen After a one-month nationwide search, Cartoon Network today announced the Malaysian winner of the Is there a Gwen in You? Contest. The pan-regional contest across Southeast Asia was on the look-out for amazing young girls from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand – who embrace confidence, wit and courage – very much like the characteristics of Gwen Tennyson, cousin of Cartoon Network's popular hero Ben 10. Beating over 700 outstanding hopefuls, five-year old Syeda Saira Binti Syed Sirajudeen won the judges over with her inspiring similarities to Gwen. An avid fan of the Ben 10 series, this Kuala Lumpur youngster is active in swimming and Aikido, and aspires to be a doctor one day. While Syeda keeps a busy schedule, she still finds time to read, stay connected online and watch TV. With over 5,000 entries submitted across Southeast Asia, the contest was hosted on the dedicated Gwen website (Gwen10.com). Participants were asked to complete an interactive quiz which tested for all the positive characteristics displayed by Gwen Tennyson. "Cartoon Network is very excited to celebrate girl power with the Is There a Gwen in You? Contest; Gwen Tennyson has inspired many young girls today and continues to be a positive role model. With this in mind, we wanted to find local heroines who can be special ambassadors to help empower other girls to have greater self-esteem, confidence and live a healthy, active lifestyle. Inspired by our classic Era shoe, we took lines, patterns and details from the best-selling surf and skate model and re-worked them into a killer new set of boarsdshorts complete with our iconic red heel tab, a shoe tongue styled fly and an eyelet waistband closure. The Era is available in three different materializations this year: The Era Classic features a lightweight and moldable cotton-nylon canvas blend and comes in four sharp colorways, while The Era Check comes in a quick dry 2-way stretch fabric and has a comfortable dobby check grid texture that minimizes skin contact and friction to prevent rash. The new Amphibian short features a 4-way ultra lightweight stretch fabric with a water resistant finish providing a perfect balance between performance flexibility and out-of the water shape retention. Special Projects: Vans x Neil Blender for Joel Tudor In the early-to-mid 80's, Neil Blender left his footprint in skate history with his iconic artwork that was as unique and inspiring as his style of skateboarding. He was one of the pioneers of skaters doing their own art and his influence has undeniably set the tone for generations of artists in the skateboarding community to this day. A longtime fan of Blender, Joel tapped into Neil this spring to create artwork for a small collection of his signature apparel styles for Vans including a tank, tees and boardshort, all featuring custom designs. Vans x Ando & Friends This Spring Vans is excited to introduce a special project with Andy Davis' new venture, Ando & Friends. A well known, San Diego based surf artist, Andy literally grew up in Vans, crafting countless custom pairs over the years that have accompanied him all over the world and on many adventures. Creator of brands Free and Byrd, Davis' latest extension, Ando & Friends, is an art driven clothing line from Andy and his pals featuring designs that are simple and fun and capture the soulful aesthetic of riding waves. Their work also has a funky, retro vibe and often features clever, tongue-in-cheek humor. Drawing inspiration from life, travels, family, music and the ocean to name a few, Andy & Co. injected their unique aesthetic into a small collection of apparel and footwear for Vans this season.
